Bishop’s Move, the UK’s largest privately owned removal company, were proud to be able to answer The Haiti Hospital Appeal’s urgent call for help.
The Haiti Hospital Appeal, a small British charity registered in 2006, has provided Haiti a health centre, a children’s home for children with special needs, Haiti’s first publicly available emergency response ambulance and is also in the process of building a brand new hospital in Capt-Haitien, Haiti’s second largest city.
Reverend Paul Hill, Pastor of East Sheen Baptist Church, and his wife Glynis along with Carwyn, their son and cofounder of the charity, were all in Haiti when the earthquake struck. Within 2 days of this, the Haiti Hospital Appeal launched its emergency relief appeal alongside providing some of the first international aid to the worst effected people.
On his return from Haiti, Reverend Paul Hill set about organising the emergency appeal in co-operation with two other local churches. In just 3 days over 17,000 cubic feet as much as 4000 standard removal cartons, of items such as blankets, tins of food, water and medical supplies had been donated via Paul’s church alone. A local school even donated enough desks, chairs and other materials to equip an entire classroom.
Removals specialists, Bishop’s Move, were contacted as East Sheen Baptist Church urgently needed to transport the aid from the church to Portsmouth Docks in order that it could meet with the deadline of the 28th January, when the containers, kindly donated by a well known banana importer, were due to leave.
Through their network of nationwide branches Bishop’s Move were able to act quickly and donated a driver and their largest transporter from their Portsmouth branch, ‘a trailer and drag’ that can take up to 3000 cubic feet for the day thus ensuring that these critical supplies could be transported in time.
David Guiel, General Manager, Bishop’s Move commented, ‘As an essentially family-run company we are always willing to help out with worthy causes wherever possible. This call for help gave us the chance to make a small difference and we are proud to have helped out any way we could.’
Rev. Hill, who is also the HHA’s Goodwill Ambassador, said, “I am very pleased to be able to thank Bishop’s Move for their great help and generosity in donating their lorry and staff to help us and the people of Haiti at such a critical time. My thanks come on behalf of all of us, including those people who will shortly be benefiting from the aid now in transit. Also, I have to say, the element of ecclesiastical humour was not lost on me or on members of my Church! May Bishops keep moving in the right direction and may Bishop’s Move be there to help them when needed! God bless you all!”
