House Hold Effects

Having joined the EU all consignments of household and personal effects moved within the EU countries are in free circulation. This means that there is no customs clearance or governmental taxes or duties.

A port wharfage levy is applied on all new or used white goods and entertainment equipment at approximately Cy£3.95 per piece and is payable at destination.

Required documentation for household goods only:

  • Copy of passport
  • Packing list (completed by packing crew)

Motor Vehicles

All first time immigrants taking up residency may import one motor vehicle as long as: they have owned and used the vehicle in their previous country for 6 months prior to transfer of residency; their normal place of residence prior to import has been outside of Cyprus for a continuous period of at leastw 12 months; the vehicle is imported within 12 months of the owner's arrival; the vehicle has not be acquired under an import or Excise Duty Relief scheme in its country of registration.

Any imported vehicle may not be sold, disposed of, hired out, lent or transferred without prior approval of the Director of Customs.
Additional documentation required for motor vehicles:

  • Vehicle registration papers
  • Original passport
  • Driving licence
  • Cyprus Road Insurance Certificate

Restrictions

Food and beverages (including alcohol) are permitted but we suggest that only pre-packaged and canned food be taken due to the transit times involved.

Plants may be imported if accompanied by a Phytosanitary Certificate and Import Licence. This documentation is extremely difficult to obtain therefore importation is not recommended.

Within your consignment you are permitted to import a maximum of two hunting shotguns and/or one airgun. Any gun must be at least one year old and must also have a police permit. No other forms of weaponry are permitted.
