We have been helping more than 15,000 families move home every year for over 155 years - come financial rain or shine! When property markets are not at their most bouyant, it is particularly important that prior to putting your house up for sale, you take a long, hard look at all the little jobs that need to be done, such as touching up chipped paintwork and sprucing up the garden.
Marketing Director, Chris Marshall says: “De-clutter and tidy away all those ornaments and bits and pieces which have been collected over the years, so the rooms look bigger and buyers can see your property’s potential. If not, they might just go elsewhere.”
To help further, Bishop’s Move suggests these top tips to help you get your home ready for it's potential buyers:
- Make sure your front garden and front door are smart and welcoming and the doorbell is working
- Check the gutters are free from debris and are not leaking
- Ask a neighbour or friend to help you declutter each room, they will help you be more objective
- If you can’t bear to throw things out, put them into short-term storage until you are ready to move
- Fresh flowers or pot pourri in each room will make the house look cared for and help the rooms smell sweet
- Pay particular attention to the kitchen and the bathroom, a tidy, clutter-free worksurface and colourful towels can make all the difference
- Check paintwork for any chips or scrapes and, remember that while you may like your brightly coloured walls, it might be better to re-decorate in neutral shades to give a better impression of space
- Smells such as fresh coffee and baking bread make a place feel welcoming and remember to put air fresheners or pot pourri in each room
- If you have a dog, ask someone to look after it when viewers are due and make sure doggy odours aren’t a turn off
- When showing potential buyers round the house, be helpful but don’t crowd them
